Childhood is when many dental habits are formed, good or bad. While many of these habits are formed with the help of parental guidance, your child’s pediatric dentist will make a difference in their overall experience. Cynthia J Mikula, DDS has a passion for helping children to develop healthy habits and to make dental care a comfortable and stress-free process. Our cozy and family-friendly environment helps to give kids the best possible experience.

Our Philosophy for Pediatric Dentistry
At Cynthia J. Mikula, DDS, Inc., we believe that many good dental habits are formed in our office. That is why having a family-focused model is important. With our practice, we can give families the tools they need to make good dental hygiene at home more achievable. We also believe that creating positive dental experiences for children can help them to have a more positive relationship with dental visits. Every appointment that we schedule is a chance for us to connect with a child and make them more comfortable with cleanings and other necessary procedures.
At our practice, we know how to help children feel comfortable. From our warm and caring personalities to our experience in explaining procedures in a way that kids understand, we can help every child to feel relaxed.
Pediatric Dental Services We Offer
Education
Education is one of the most important things that we do at our pediatric dental clinic. Kids have a natural curiosity and we always take the chance to help children learn more about their teeth and good dental practices. By educating our little patients about brushing, flossing, loose teeth, and cavities, we can help them to take charge of their dental health and create good habits.
Preventative Care
Cleanings
Having your child’s teeth cleaned twice per year can help prevent cavities, tooth decay, plaque build-up, and more. Caring for baby teeth will set your child on a path of good dental health even beyond their childhood years. While baby teeth are temporary, taking care of them can help their teeth to be healthy once their adult teeth grow in. Healthy baby teeth can also help with your child’s speech and self-esteem.
Examination
Regular examinations during your child’s by-yearly checkup are important to help detect disease, cavities, and other problems in the mouth. During our examination, we will look for oral diseases and make sure the gums, tongue, and teeth are healthy. With our examinations, we can help prevent gum disease, tooth decay, and more.
Dental Procedures
Fillings
More than half of all children will have had a cavity before their adult teeth come in. And while cavities can be prevented by limiting sugary snacks and drinks and brushing and flushing their teeth every day, cavities can still happen. Sometimes genetics can be a factor in cavity development. It is important to have cavities filled as soon as possible to help prevent your child from developing a sore tooth.
Dental Pain
If your child is experiencing pain in any of their teeth, we can help by diagnosing the problem and fixing it. Sometimes tooth pain can come from gum disease or from a cavity. Tooth pain can even come from irritated sinuses and congestion due to illness or allergies.
Chipped or Damaged Teeth
Children who are growing and energetic can sometimes be more clumsy. This can lead to accidents and injuries. If your child has chipped, loosened, or knocked out a tooth, we provide services to fix the problem. Our calm and compassionate services will help your child to feel relaxed even after an injury.
Helping Kids to Feel Comfortable at the Dentist
The majority of children will feel some trepidation about visiting the dentist. Whether this is because the experience is new for them or because they have had a bad experience in the past, it is normal for kids to be nervous before an appointment. At our clinic, we do everything we can to help ease some of your child’s fears.
Before coming in for the appointment, we recommend that you spend some time talking about what to expect. You can role-play and get them involved in taking one of their stuffed animals or dolls to the “dentist.”
We offer a bright and friendly environment and we work hard to put your child at ease. We will talk them through everything we are doing and offer distractions to help them feel more comfortable.
